Lighthouse
Established
in 1839, two lights on the south pier, both painted
red, are connected by a lighted catwalk that also
connects them to the shore and the Boardwalk.
The inner light is cylindrical and the square
outer light stands on a huge concrete foundation.
On pleasant days, people stroll the boardwalk
that borders the Grand River channel and the pier.
The U.S. Coast Guard Station-Grand Haven is responsible
for maintaining this light and 15 lighthouses
on the West Michigan lakeshore. For information
and history on the Grand Haven lighthouse, visit
the Tri-Cities Historical Museum. (616) 842-0700.
